I Need To Have More Hands! |
Hi, my name is Dominique. I'm a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing and also a licensed nurse. You may ask, aren't nurses too busy to have a social life? Do nurses even have time to create a blog? Blah, blah, blah. For the record, even though I'm a nurse, I stopped practicing my profession a year ago and tried out a different setting like the call center. I could say that being a customer service representative is tough but not as tough as being a nurse to a dying patient with no relatives.
Other than a customer service representative, I once also tried being a medical transcriptionist to somehow make up for the fact that I'm not a nurse in the hospital anymore. Since part of the work I do is analyzing documents on the patient's records and creating a report on it, being a nurse somehow helped me achieve more. After a couple of months, I was assigned to be one of the editors. It seemed to be easier at first, but debating with your co-workers regarding their works is never easy. After a while, I got into another setting, which is English writing. This, I could say, is by far the best job I've had since I graduated. It is the best in a sense that I can show my creativity and passion for writing and earn at the same time.
Nursing is a Bit Challenging |
After all my experiences in becoming more than just a nurse, I still have the passion for my first profession, which is nursing. I know for a fact that some nurses prefer to be a company nurse, school nurse or be a nurse in any other place other than the hospital to practice their profession. So, what better way could I express my passion for nursing other than working in a hospital? Yes, I thought so too, in writing!
With this being said, I'm going to brief you on what you can expect on my blog. Of course, since this is a nursing blog, you can expect to learn about nursing stuff (what do we study?) and stories about the "first-times". Also, I'll share some information about why students most likely choose nursing over any other course, plus you'll get some tips to survive your nursing career. Other than that, I'll also share some experiences when I was still studying nursing, the unending stress, exposure to adult-related topics and more. I can also share with you one of the most memorable experiences I had as a student. It was the time when I interviewed escorts in our local as part of project for promoting Reproductive Health among women. You can also read about stories before, during and after taking the licensure exams and overcoming the "first-day anxiety" of becoming a professional nurse.
In addition, I'll also be talking about the difference among nurses then and now. If you want to know more about Florence Nightingale, I could definitely give you a post on that. I understand how nurses nowadays especially those in the third world countries choose to either go abroad or go outside of their comfort zones. I for one is a living testimony to those who step out of their comfort zones. Regardless of the many different reasons we nurses may have, what's important is we're contributing well to our families and the health care community.
All of these things and more can be expected on my blog and if you want to suggest a topic, feel free to do so. You may be surprised at how everything and everyone can be related to nursing.
